Manufacturing company Entretelas Brinco recently hired workplace design firm Archetonic to design their new office in Tultitlán de Mariano Escobedo, Mexico.

“The project is located in an industrial zone, in a platform above a storage and distribution center of a company focused on the textile sector. The challenge was to solve and attune -spatially, operatively and intangibly- a corporate and commercial workspace that would be immersed in a mainly industrial environment.

We brought and adopted in our design solution the peculiar character that the steel structure and lightweight roof give to the space in the upper plane, as well as the view towards the imposing industrial panorama that can be appreciated from the loft. We took advantage of the gentle height, including trees and vegetation.

Wood, stone and glass are the main materials applied to the space. We also integrated textile finishes and restored old machinery, seeking to align the identity and materiality of the space with the daily productive activity of the company.

We took as a basis the information of the daily operation of the company, as well as the dynamics, interaction and way of working of the people to determine the distribution and functional solutions for the space. Motivated by the directors of Entretelas Brinco, who have collaborated so that the project is at the forefront, we did a workshop involving the people who work in the company. The workshop capitalizes on the knowledge that HM has gathered from the corporate world over the years; the spatial solution is the result of useful and current design methodologies that allow us to analyze, understand and reinvent the peculiar way of working of each company.

We are aware that nowadays our ways of work are under profound alterations and that the world and needs that architecture should solve are constantly changing, for which, as in all our projects, we resolved and guaranteed flexibility for the spaces, offering in the offices different work dynamics and environments, as well as work spaces that can be used provisionally, encouraging experimental and informal dynamics that question conventional solutions.

The spaces that motivate flexible work dynamics are available for the use of all staff and surrounded by a system of textile pallets specially designed for this project that can open and close depending on the privacy or exposure needs that could become necessary over time and different uses that are given to space.

Thus, all the spaces are tailored to Entretelas Brinco, causing collaboration and interaction of people, projecting and preparing the company to adapt and respond to the ways of working that may arise in the future.”

Architecture firm Damon Farber recently hired architecture & interior design firm Studio BV to design their new office in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

“The concept for the new Damon Farber office is about natural materials and connections. This idea comes from the work they do, connecting people to nature and making strong relationships between the interior and exterior spaces. This is clear in their new office space with the connection of the deck to the cafe and work areas. The concept of connections is clear when you walk into the space. The visitor sees the work, both in process and the rich palette of materials that create the landscap es. The critique space and open work lounge invites teams and visitors to become part of the design process. Creating a welcoming and rich visual texture when you arrive will be the library and display built in wall.

This wall contains important materials and a monitor to display the work the team is creating. This lounge area becomes the bridge between the enclosed meeting spaces and the open work and collaboration areas. The work environment is flexible and transparent and puts the teams and work first, with multiple places to connect and draw. The cafe space becomes a focal point with great amenities and a connection to the roof top deck. This deck feature will be the heart of the office supporting work and play for the Damon Farber team and their clients.”

Private real estate management investment company hired workplace design firm Oktra to design their new office in London, England.

“The brief focused on creating a space akin to an art gallery, with an interior that could provide a neutral canvas for the curated artwork to shine.

Oktra’s team worked in partnership with the architecture practice Design Haus Liberty to turn their design concepts into reality through a detail and build process. They applied the principles of value engineering to develop a design in line with the client’s budget, and implemented creative solutions to achieve cost-efficiency without compromising on design integrity. Oktra formed a collaborative relationship with the client and held workshops to examine drawings and samples; an exercise to ensure the design conveyed the brand’s key messages.

The finished space is rich in textures with a soft colour palette that allows the artwork to take centre-stage. The reception features a cascading steel wall with built in LED flat panel screens that can be used to create a tailored visitor experience in the front of house – from displaying fashion shows to retail promotions. With a modern, fresh and chic workspace, the investment managers can find more common ground with their clients and use the space as an extension of their marketing. The office is a tangible, immersive representation of their brand and their work,” says Oktra.

Real estate agency Premico Group recently hired office design firm Mint & More Creative to design their new office in Helsinki, Finland.

“The office of the future combines service and experience. In an era where anyone may work from home, the office needs to offer a little extra. Premico’s office has a carefully planned path for guests and employees that showcases their expertise in property management. The entrance area is designed to be eye-catching with a soft and hospitable feel. The lobby’s refreshment smoothly welcomes visitors further in, while the meeting rooms, lounges and hybrid work areas offer diversity for the workday.

Premico’s office concept is based on high-quality materials and a focus on beautiful and moody, fully adjustable lighting. All our wooden elements, from furniture and storage cabinets to paneling and even the archway, were commissioned from a local carpenter. The office has a calming atmosphere due to its minimalistic style, activity-based layout and ample storage space. By simply reducing clutter and noise in the office, we can reduce users’ stress levels and create happier workplaces.

In our design, we aim for sustainable solutions. In addition to picking environmentally friendly products and producers, like recycled carpeting and domestic carpentry, we believe the best sustainable choices are those with the longest lifespan. Premico’s office had been stripped to bare concrete before the project, so our mission was to design the space to last time. We created solutions that complement the building’s architecture to feel as if they have always been there.”

Private equity firm Antin Infrastructure Partners recently hired workplace design firm Oktra to design their new office in London, England.

“Oktra collaborated with their senior teams in London and Paris to develop a design reflective of their Parisian office, which could create a sense of continuity for their employees who split their time between the two cities. The partners envisioned a high-end office design with a premium and timeless feel that would reflect the quality and stability of their business.

Oktra’s client chose a listed building in Mayfair for their new office, where we delivered a Cat B fit out across two floors and installed a striking integral staircase with bespoke joinery to connect the ground and first floors. A two-storey workplace improves the client experience as their point of arrival is removed from the working floor, yet still easily accessible. The central staircase celebrates the scale of the workplace while opening up void areas to compliment the light tones, soft indirect illumination and borrowed natural light through the glazing. The working floors benefit from high ceilings to further enhance the natural light to create a calm, professional and high-performing working environment.

Every function of Antin Infrastructure Partners’ business is catered for, with cellular offices for executives, two lounges and a library for hosting clients, and a fully catered kitchen where employees can interact away from client-facing areas. A range of meetings spaces that vary in formality support the residential undertone conveyed in the brief and can accommodate both internal and external requirements. From boardrooms to luxurious lounges, each space in Oktra’s client’s new workplace exhibits elements of quality craftsmanship and sets the investment managers up for continued success.”

Nonprofit organization American Library Association reached out to architecture & interior design firm NELSON Worldwide design their new office in Chicago, Illinois.

“ALA wanted their new office to leave a lasting impression on their members and visitors. Guests arrive on the 13th floor and are greeted by a bold graphic that reads: “To Promote Library Service and Librarianship.” This signage helps convey the ethos of the organization and gently reminds visitors of the work the ALA does. Adjacent to the elevator lobby is a glass wall that provides a glimpse into the reception area. Inside, a large graphic is stretched out and lined throughout the wall and into the main work area, where it creates a backdrop for some of the organization’s previous magazine covers and vintage celebrity READ posters. In addition, a digital monitor has been incorporated in the lobby to celebrate recent events and achievements in the communities the ALA serves.

Strategically placed right off the reception area is a long corridor that displays award-winning books, more digital monitors with graphics that celebrate ALA, a custom reading nook, and a rotating display of the organization’s own artwork. This corridor leads to the heart of the office: the main library. This is where the kaleidoscope inspiration shines brightest—a plethora of colors including orange, red, and teal merging to showcase the diversity in the community. The design team strategically placed the library in between the reception and workplace area to ensure staff would need to make their way through it on a daily basis to access the mailroom, print room, café, and conference rooms. The café is adjacent to the library with a large open communal area, access to natural sunlight, and sweeping views of Chicago’s Millennium Park.

Past the library is an open-floor workplace, which was intentionally left neutral so that the focal point rests on the thousands of books housed both in the library and throughout the open office area in bookcases lining walls and workstations. At the beginning of the design process, the change from private offices in the old headquarters to open workspaces was an area of concern. To help ease the transition, NELSON held visioning, imagery, and design meetings with the ALA team, as well as partnered with BOS Holdings to create multiple mock-ups of workstation layouts. This allowed employees to test out their new desks and give feedback via surveys. The NELSON team was therefore able to make last minute adjustments to aspects of the design prior to the official opening. The firm also created a welcome packet for the ALA staff to help them better understand their new space, how to use it effectively, and introduce them to the new amenities.

Located alongside the perimeters of the space, natural daylighting boosts productivity as well as makes the space brighter and more welcoming for staff working in the open workstations. The technology in the workplace also received an upgrade. Webinar rooms were added for the staff to better record and give live CEU’s, podcasts, and webinars from their office space. A variety of moveable furniture also accommodates more agile work throughout. Ultimately, the new plan made it possible for staff to work in a more open environment through grouped workstations that encourage interaction and collaboration. Those who do have private offices are also made to feel a part of the larger office ecosystem through smaller footprints and glass walls that allow visual connections,” says NELSON Worlwide

Construction management firm CreekDev partnered with ThredUp and Noma Design & Co to renovate a signature Oakland building built in 1870.

“We created new conference rooms, phone rooms, and opened up the floor plan to allow natural light to flow through the entire building.
The original hardwood pine floors and stairs were restored, as well as the historic entry tile we discovered during construction. CreekDev built the new and improved kitchen and dining area, constructed the exterior patio roof, and installed new lighting throughout. The building systems were updated with new HVAC, fire alarm, fire sprinklers, and roofing.

A facade restoration including gold leaf accents ensures that the outside of the building shines with all its former glory. CreekDev managed the construction and handled all communications with the city around permitting this historic building. It was a pleasure and an honor to revive this queen of the neighborhood”, says Creek Development.

Property management firm Two22 recently hired architecture and interior design firm Nelson Worldwide to design their new office in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

“As visitors enter the renovated lobby, they are greeted by a spacious entryway with white marble floors and constellation lit ceilings. The presence of a distinctive security reception desk centered in the second-floor skyway lobby was paramount in the design to offer a sense of safety in the building and anchored by a branding moment featuring the newly redesigned Two22 logo inscribed on a full blue and gray marble wall.

The overall design was driven by sophistication, technology, evolved amenities, and fluidity. The use of curves were purposefully introduced for fluid movement of space, to ease the path for those using the skyway and further represented in the Two22 logo. Natural light was also an important consideration, removing all perimeter enclosures within the center of the building, and minimizing barriers offered a far more inviting and open place to easily navigate. Positioned throughout the refreshed lobby are stone walls, hints of metal, and other timeless materials that light the entrance when coming in contact with sunlight. Each side of the security desk is met with third work zones, welcoming people to gather and meet or work, including the new cafe and a breakout area equipped with seating and tables for those visiting the building. Another unique amenity found in the lobby behind the cafe is a larger fitness center than the one previously in the building. With its refresh, the fitness center can accommodate more tenants and features a group workout room. Near the fitness center and café, NELSON also designed a restaurant lounge concept to give tenants and guests the option for a more sophisticated, sit-down dining experience.

Past the security desk is, a tenant-only amenities lounge, Suite Two22. This section of the lobby amplifies the work-meets-social component that many tenants and employees in the workplace crave. The hospitality-like lounge also features additional breakout areas and conference rooms that give employees different spaces to work and meet with colleagues. This room’s cornerstone is comfort; leather seats, floor-to-ceiling windows, a gas fireplace are incorporated into the design to yield luxury and solace. As outdoor working spaces are more important than ever, with employee wellness being top-of-mind, Suite Two22 offers a roof deck. The patio features additional seating, a gas fireplace, and an unmatched view of downtown Minneapolis, creating a place for employees to work al fresco. The roof deck also features a state-of-the-art, operable sunshade and screening system to allow for privacy when needed.

Set behind the cafe and expanded fitness center is a wide staircase that connects the lobby to the first floor. The NELSON Worldwide design team replaced the previous escalator with the statement staircase to better activate the first floor and attract more foot traffic. To entice visitors, the ground floor features a first-class conference and training room equipped with modern technology and touchscreen video-capabilities with the capacity to accommodate 75 individuals. In lockstep with the lobby, the conference space replicates the white floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, and breakout work points. A distinctive sculpture is suspended over the first floor in the atrium. It is shaped with circular voids resembling the concept of fluid space and fabricated with a combination of delicate accent metals used throughout the project, shinning with natural light,” says Nelson Worldwide.

Architecture firm Adam Kane Architects recently moved into a new office in Melbourne, Australia, which they designed themselves.

“The inspiring new workspace is complemented by a number of custom made fittings and furniture pieces, creating a unique office that provides a glimpse into the future direction for the practice.

Brooding and elegant, the use of a rich grey hue in the architraves, ceiling and walls is cleverly contrasted by the abundance of natural light that floods the space.
On the ground floor, a small powder rooms sits next to a narrow staircase, discreetly hidden by a large, unassuming pivot door.

On the first floor, there is a subtle separation between the meeting room and main workspace, with a transition in floor levels ensuring that the spaces are kept individual. Custom steel-framed doors that stretch 3.6m high from floor to ceiling also allow the spaces to be closed off entirely, bringing flexibility to the office as a whole.

The bronze joinery ‘block’ is a feature of the workspace, creating a bold focal point that cleverly divides the formal and informal zones of the space. Clad in panels of custom dipped bronze, the block provides an everchanging play of light across its patinaed surface whilst concealing the kitchenette and sample library on its reverse.

The purposeful layering of grey provides a soothing backdrop to the office, allowing a collection of custom pieces to be accentuated, including a five-metre long, timber-veneer desk purpose built in it’s place. Another custom feature is a marble table supported by three polished plaster ‘pillars’, providing a place to gather and collaborate in the corner. Whilst the stone offcuts from the tabletop were used to create a secondary side table.”

Internet infrastructure provider CentralNic hired workplace design firm Peldon Rose to design their new office in London, England.

“Their team had been split over multiple floors in their previous office which had created a disconnected workplace. This formed an essential part of the brief as we wanted to provide a more flexible working environment, as well as a dedicated break out space where whole company can socialise. The breakout has been designed to contrast from the rest of the office to make it more inviting and a distinctive departure from the main office floor.

One of the big changes on this project was moving to one floor plate, which meant that all the workstations would be in one location. We included a variety of meeting spaces away from the desking, which included quiet working areas and designated phone booths which enhanced the diversity in available spaces. To encourage new ways of working, we added a collaboration bench in the centre of the office and new meeting booths in the breakout. There are single booths and shared booths which provide an alternative to the large boardroom for either quick ad hoc catch ups or private working,” says Peldon Rose.

Private company hired architecture firm Schuchovski Arquitetura to design their new office in Curitiba, Brazil.

“For this corporate project, developed on 2,690 square feet, we transformed a broad atmosphere – intended for only two partners and five employees – in a truly warm and welcoming space. The use of wood, the choice of powerful works of art and exemplaries of design furniture (such as Vitra armchairs and Tom Dixon lighting) collaborate in creating such an atmosphere.

We came up with a cozy project through many living areas, works of art, wooden floors and carpets. The result is a welcoming atmosphere. The partners’ office, for example, is integrated by a living room in which they can entertain clients or have moments of their own.
To eliminate the traditional look of a corporate project, our office invested in integrating environments: in the staff area, the partitions are made of glass and have inter-glass blinds that allow integration or privacy.

Also, to equate the plant’s amplitude with the small number of employees, we defined innovative uses for all areas: from a pleasant interaction area to a very spacious pantry, a sophisticated meeting room and a comfortable reception area.

The project is also characterized by a clean and pure concept, in the essence of minimalism, yet extremely refined with the use of marble and metals.” says Schuchovski Arquitetura.
