Charity organization MS Society hired workplace design studio Peldon Rose to design their new office in London, England.

“Located opposite Finsbury Park Station, the charity’s new workspace offers an inspiring destination to welcome staff back to the office as restrictions ease and the charity moves to a more flexible way of working.

With a focus on autonomy and wellbeing, the MS Society has adopted an activity-based working style that gives staff the freedom to decide where and how they want to work to suit their individual needs, role and personality. No longer bound by the outdated requirement of providing rows and rows of desks for employees, it was time to create a destination office – one that supports flexible working through a blended mix of settings and promotes greater health and wellbeing. Most importantly, it needed to be somewhere people genuinely want to come, home to lots of different activity-based settings that put significant focus on people and community.”

Food delivery company Mindful Chef hired interior design studio Thirdway to design their new office in London, England.

“The brief was simple. This had to be a place they could be proud of and would represent the company, and community, that they’ve become. And as a B-Corp, focusing on wellbeing and sustainability was key. The fact that this project was delivered entirely throughout a pandemic was no easy feat but Thirdway’s project team handled things seamlessly – ensuring socially distanced onsite meetings and furniture tours could still happen so the final result wouldn’t be compromised. Throughout the space the exposed concrete architecture is complemented by a warm, neutral, Scandinavian-inspired backdrop. Their brand colours stand out against it and have been incorporated into furnishings and playful icons in meeting rooms. The lighter tones – warm greys, soft greens, lilacs – create a calm and homely environment for the team.

This unique 12,500 sq ft demise was originally three individual units which brought its challenges as they were combined. With five-floor level changes between them and the task of taking the spaces from shell and core to Cat B, the team decided to work with the architecture rather than against it, cleverly designing mixed-level features into the scheme.

Of course, the beating heart of the office is their kitchen and adjacent breakout space. When it’s not being used to produce culinary magic, it’s prime hotdesking and social space, buzzing lunchtimes every day as the team are provided with healthy meals. This area is fresh, bright and airy. Behind the Crittal glazing, the chefs are in their whites cooking up a storm. Cream, shaker style units bring country-kitchen vibes and huge windows allow light to pour in and emphasize the spaciousness.
To break away from the buzz, there’s a library and quiet working booths. The fixed desks are bookable to support hybrid working or claimed by scanning a QR code. There’s also a gym sporting Peloton bikes and Lulu Lemon equipment.

Impossible to miss in the welcome space is the majestic floor-to-ceiling purple box wall. What better way to showcase Mindful Chefs brand than to build the wall from their own recycled purple recipe boxes, with the recessed glowing logo at the centre. The stunning vertical farm by Square Mile Farms also adorns one of the walls and alerts the senses as soon as you enter the office; highlighting the fact that this truly is the home of fresh, healthy produce. This element has taken what Mindful Chef stand for to a deeper and more immersive level whilst promoting a sustainable farm-to-plate approach.

Within the working areas, the walls are bright and colourful, featuring hanging pictures of previous charitable initiatives. To hit their ESG targets, a variety of recycled and eco-friendly materials were sourced and used throughout such as the tea point powder coat which utilises 100% recycled paint and the 100% organic and sustainable feature wall covering in reception from Organoid Technologies,” says

Software company HashiCorp recently hired interior design firm IDF Studio to design their new office in San Francisco, California.

“IDF Studio reimagined a stuffy office space for a systems-focused software company by playing up layered geometric motifs and introducing a sense of warmth. Dramatic 3D accent walls, custom wood slat dividers, hexagonal window film, and a string art interpretation of their logo speak to HashiCorp’s commitment to simple, modular service. The airy white kitchen hub with floating wood shelves and a lush plant wall rounds out the fresh and inviting look.”

HashiCorp develops custom Cloud infrastructure and management solutions for the world’s largest companies. Their San Francisco HQ embodies the company’s simple, modular approach to solving complex challenges. A calming gray-and-blue color palette, layered with geometric wall treatments, graphic rugs, and striking art pieces, transformed a staid office into a lively creative space,” says IDF Studio.

Advertising and marketing company Rise and Shine hired architecture interior design firm Studio BV to design their new office in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

“The new office supports a new way to work and prioritizes what is most essential about work,” says Kevin DiLorenzo, Rise and Shine and Partners President/CEO. “We made a strategic decision to move to a Minneapolis neighborhood near the lakes and remake what our office could be.”  The new office is in a new timber structure that is full of texture and simplicity and the new office operates like a home. The anchor of the space is a large kitchen gathering space that is connected to a roof top deck. The deck has views of the neighborhood and their favorite ice cream shop downstairs.  That favorite local ice cream maker even created a new flavor for them called Rise & Shine!

The new office features a signature light in the main conference room, visible from the stairs, elevator and entry.  The use of color and contrast creates intimacy and definition throughout the space.  The light options are metaphors for the lighthouse and the beacon that welcomes the team everyday to the space and to the place of creativity in the meeting room.

The new office features concrete floors, wood architecture, and glass.  The intervening design work focuses on saturation as a point of contrast to the warm ceiling and wood columns.  This contrast in color is seen in the interior walls that contrast with the white perimeter walls.  The color creates definition and drama in the space.

“Our new space embraces new world realities,” says DiLorenzo. “We call it ’the Hive,’ because it has great energy and people can buzz in and out as needed. Our people have demonstrated a great ability to work from anywhere, but we still crave opportunities to connect and collaborate in person.”

Clothing company Aether Apparel hired architecture and development firm Assembledge+ to design their new office in Los Angeles, California.

“Born out of the desire for men’s and women’s collections to look at home in the city but withstand the outdoors, Aether’s products reflect a pure expression of form and function. Aether Apparel engaged Assembledge+ to renovate an existing 1953 bow truss building and design a new, dynamic headquarters to echo the brand’s value and provide for a transparent and creative workspace.

The solution endeavoured to celebrate the original building by opening up the original structure and creating a communal and flexible workspace, partitioned into workstation areas, a design studio, communal areas and a conference room adjacent to a showroom.

Large window openings along the southern concrete façade fill the space with natural light and contribute to the sense of openness. The project’s clean lines, predominately white interiors with wooden details and exposed warehouse space create an airy, open office conducive to communication with a clean and modern aesthetic.

In the spirit of their extreme passion for the environment, the client requested the space to be as eco-conscious as possible and utilize solar energy for all the electrical requirements. A cooled roof made of foam was utilized to allow for all the wood structure and decking to be exposed while reflecting 80% of the sun’s rays. Outside, a canopy composed entirely out of solar panels provides shade from the southern sun and powers the entire office with solar energy, while putting an extra 30% back into the grid.”

“A complete office renovation of an established tech company looking to refresh their brand and headquarters experience. The growth of the company required new amenities not available in their current configuration including a customer experience center and cafeteria for the company to gather.

Removing existing team cubicles, the layout changed to team benching around the window lined perimeter with an internal circulation loop with meeting rooms, coffee station, printing area, and bathrooms,” says Synecdoche Design.

Real estate agency JLL hired architecture & interior design firm H. Hendy Associates to design their new office in Irvine, California.

“The interior architecture reflects an industrial California coastal look-and-feel that creates an inviting and comfortable, yet timeless space. Bright, natural light combined with an open layout and warm color palette creates an energetic atmosphere that captures the entrepreneurial spirit of the company while providing ample space for company and other hospitality events. A large boardroom featuring operable glass walls that open into the reception area and the nearby breakout-and-media room boast a unique newly installed 15-foot by 45-foot double-pitch skylight. The open reception area is highlighted by a 20-foot multifunctional stone-and-wood desk that also serves as a bar for hospitality and catering. Exposed ceilings, polished concrete floors and raised-seam metal roofing add a warm, edgy industrial ambience throughout the space. The Class A space also is dynamically equipped with state-of-the art amenities, onsite dining options, live entertainment, and functional indoor and outdoor workspaces.

JLL’s new office space pioneers an innovative model for the future of office in Orange County and beyond and delivers on our objectives to unite teams’ cross functionally,” said Jeff Ingham, senior managing director at JLL. “After working with Hendy to design our previous office in 2012, we knew immediately we had to reengage their firm for our new configuration. While the purpose of office has changed, corporate leaders understand the value of a physical space that fosters human connection, community and engages their workforce. We hope our new space serves as a model for our clients as they identify their workplace solutions for tomorrow.”

Coworking space provider Helio recently hired architecture firm Kaka Architekter to design their new coworking space in Stockholm, Sweden.

“The concept is called the ‘dream factory’. We took our starting point in the area’s industrial heritage and were inspired by Sundbyberg as a city where industrious people, both now and historically, came to create great things whether it be radios, chocolate, records.

In the design, the dream factory is manifested in a meeting between the rugged and polished. Gray concrete mixes with warm tones in chocolate and pastel, hard steel constructions are draped in soft curtains and the design references factory chimneys. We have added some Easter eggs hinting to the cable manufacturing that was so vital to the neighborhood, e.g. the large copper installation above the café counter and hand-painted wiring on the glass windows,” says Kaka Arkitekter.

Real estate developer Schöller SI recently hired architecture and interior design firm Ippolito Fleitz Group to design their new office in Reutlingen, Germany.

“Especially in times like these, when the office has moved into everyone’s living room, the value of shared office spaces beco- mes crystal clear: While concentrated work is possible at home, collective work environments are places where co-creation, collaboration and communication prevail, thereby allowing completely new ideas to unfurl. They are places where corpo- rate culture is lived and shaped, and where a sense of purpose is created through the symbiosis of different people and disci- plines. With the new office for Schöller SI in Reutlingen, Ippo- lito Fleitz Group shows that such places can also be homey: Warm colours, an exciting materials mix and a natural look define this two-storey office. It not only creates a pleasant wor- king atmosphere, but also reflects the values of an innovative project developer, whose core business is not just commercial, but above all residential real estate …

Thanks to Willi Schöller, a wind of change is now blowing in Reutlingen. Because the visionary developer not only invests in wind farms and renewable energy, but also set a striking example with his 2019 ‘Stuttgarter Tor’ real estate project in the centre of the large town at the foot of the Swabian Alb. The 64 metre-tall edifice, in which gastronomy, living and working are combined, is the town’s first high-rise building and forms the nucleus of a brand-new quarter: In future, more residential and commercial units and even a hotel are planned for the ‘City Nord’ quarter. So there are busy times ahead for the resident project developer, who is well aware of his style and town- defining role, and who wants to enjoy the great views from the ‘Stuttgarter Tor’ himself: The group moved into two of the eighteen floors in January 2020. The family company’s innova- tive and binding identity is now reflected across a floor area of around 850 square metres.

The clarity of the architecture (which imbues almost all Schöl- ler SI projects) is continued in the interior – but becomes quite literally more multi-faceted: Tinted glass partition walls, pale curtains, linear storage units and fringed carpets zone the dif- ferent areas, giving the space a rhythm that is characterised by overlays, reflections, transparency, but also by density. Accor- dingly, both open-plan and more intimate sections, as well as different work situations can arise: from the classic workbench and large shared tables, to lounge situations and alcove retre- ats. As a free interpretation of the slogan “Your office is where you are!” ( ACTIVITY-BASED WORKING), employees can decide which informal constellation best supplements their fixed workstation, supporting them in (internal) communica-
tion and thus helping them perform their daily tasks.

Despite these divisions, the space remains fluid and flows smoothly around the central access core. To transform this closed centre into a lively focal point, its design was delibe- rately exciting: Bold colours ( COLOUR IN SPACE) alternate dynamically with different materials and textures; shelves, picture rails and pinboards activate the area; integrated seating is arena-like, forming a lively meeting spot for smaller or larger teams. The space strikes the perfect balance between a collegial work environment and warmth or cosiness, without turning it into your living room at home,” says Ippolito Fleitz Group.

German social organization Aktion Mensch recently hired architecture and interior design firm Ippolito Fleitz Group to design their new office in Bonn, Germany.

“Our aim: To create a dynamic work world across 3900 m2 where differences are normal. Meeting the same demands as in the numerous projects that Aktion Mensch supports each month. Making innate values tangible. Creating a place where all emplo- yees feel they belong. To do this, we exploited our strengths as a multidisciplinary design studio to implement inclusion in a modern and sustainable way. While at the same time preser- ving the structural substance of this office building from 2003, because a responsible use of resources is just as important. –– This is how we like to work best: by taking the existing structure into account and working effectively within the given budget. And if everything must be implemented while business opera- tions continue, no problem. Responsibility shows itself best in cooperation.

After reorganising the total floor area into eight zones, work life is organised around a village square that forms the centrepiece of each area. As central meeting places, all village squares have their own theme, from which the colour scheme for the square and the adjacent department is derived. Each colour concept is completed by an individualised ceiling. This always provides a definite answer to the question »Where shall we meet?«: at the festival, the harbour, on the sports field, in the garden, the library or at the market. This not only improves orientation, but strengthens the sense of belonging. Neighbourhoods are culti- vated. At Aktion Mensch, cultural identity is created through real-life diversity. –– If nobody is excluded, then anonymity no longer has any place.

Employee diversity is illustrated in the bold colours of the room elements. Changeable furniture, soft materials and round shapes that are never perfectly round. Each of them is unique, just like the personalities who work here. A joy for life is expressed throughout. Differences are revealed, all of which appear quite normal here. A sense of well-being can be felt at all times. The space tells stories. And the work world is readable for every- one in their own language. –– Lust for life. Desire for diversity. Vibrancy. Diverse, variable, inward leaning, approachable, taking a stance. Equal rights on an equal footing. This is what distinguishes our work world for Aktion Mensch.

Communication hubs in village squares, which can be regrou- ped according to your requirements and preferences, promote identification with your work environment. Workplaces have mobile design elements that can be adapted individually. Flexi- bility is key here, also in order to ensure needs-based accessibi- lity. A high degree of self-determination, which our design con- cepts enable in a natural and intuitive way, is a vital prerequisite for fully functioning agility,” says Ippolito Fleitz Group.

Beauty product company Nu Skin hired interior design firm Conexus to design their new office in Singapore.

“Designed with employee feedback on their working needs and preferences, the inclusive design is an inviting experience that supports the diverse ways Nu Skin employees like to work. The wide variety of work settings include a lifestyle café, hospitality-inspired lounge settings, private pods, phone booths as well as height-adjustable desks to configure sitting or standing workstations as desired. These activity-focused seating options encourage employees to change their seat as required throughout the day.

“As much as today’s workforce are working from home or traveling for business, what people crave is social interaction, in-person teamwork and really connecting with people,’ noted Brendan Khor, Managing Director of Conexus Studio. “That’s why we reimagined Nu Skin’s regional office to be a hybrid hub where one is naturally moving around and connecting with others along the way, as opposed to a place where everyone just comes in to work on their own thing.”

To further enhance team connectivity, the layout blurs traditional barriers, offering almost complete openness from one end to another. Rooms are fitted in glass in line with Nu Skin’s transparent company culture, displaying activity that would otherwise happen behind walls and doors.

To ensure a balance of vibrancy and privacy in the open layout, a progressive zoning approach was adopted, with social and focus work areas delineated with very different materiality. A setting for team gatherings, the Nu Skin Café is infused with energy and warmth, while a subdued and predominantly white space takes up the opposite end of the office, creating a distraction-free and calm setting. Lower-stimuli team collaboration areas sit in the centre of the office, with phone booths and meeting rooms on the fringes.”
