Insurance provider West of England recently hired workplace design firm Oktra to design their new office in London, England.

“West of England decided to relocate and redesign their office space to help them attract new talent and welcome in a new era for the business. West of England had recently undergone a rebrand and wanted their new office to represent their updated aesthetic. We collaborated with the client’s project team to understand the key messages they wanted to convey in their workspace and their commercial goals. As a leading insurance provider in the maritime industry, West of England were keen to have a nautical theme throughout the office, with model ships, meeting rooms named after famous harbours, and marketing collateral on display in the front of house waiting area.

Their office has been completely modernised and new ways of working are being encouraged with the introduction of breakout furniture and a variety of informal and formal meeting settings. An open plan working floor encourages movement and interaction and is helping to improve communication across the business,” says Oktra.

Investmentcompany Western Asset Management recently hired workplace design firm Peldon Rose to design their new office in London, England.

“Fitting out an iconic London building is always an exciting prospect, especially when the opportunity to incorporate the building’s existing architectural features presents itself. Using these unique features, Peldon Rose were able to create a warm, inviting and fresh space for Western Asset Management.

A welcoming, bright reception space that encapsulates the vibrancy of 10 Exchange Square first greets clients and colleagues upon entering the office, offering impressive views of the city of London. The striking architecture of the building, designed by architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in 2004, has been woven into the design, with Peldon Rose introducing new ideas that complement and enhance the space. Meeting rooms have been designed around concrete structural pillars, adding a unique touch which also maximises the floorspace available.

As a company with workplaces across the world and a client base to match, Western Asset Management needed a space that made both its clients and teams feel at home. A strong brand identity and unified look to the other global office spaces was also key, as 10 Exchange Square needed to be an immediately recognisable space. By studying the layout plans and finishes of its other locations, as well as utilising the global playbook, Peldon Rose brought this identity to life using cohesive colour palettes, fixtures and finishes. Pops of colour, like the vibrant blue of Western Asset Management’s branding, are a key example of this, and have been used throughout the space embedding the sense of identity. The end-result is harmonious, creating a synergy between every global Western Asset Management office.

Consolidating the space onto a singular floor presented an opportunity to bring teams together, and the breakout area is now a collaborative hub that unites Western Asset Management’s workforce, echoing its core business values and people-based culture. It inspires collaborative thinking in a new setting, and is an area where employees can share ideas and work together regardless of job role or department. New elements like booth seating and a breakfast bar further help to encourage teams to socialise or change up their working environment to somewhere more collaborative.

The design of the breakout space also introduces new colours to the company’s palette with punchy orange hues, mottled greys and warm earthy tones, which harmonise with the corporate blue and yellow, but still give the space a distinctly different feel.

As an imperative part of the brief, sustainability has been considered at every part of the design process, with the project set to achieve a SKA Gold rating. Western Asset Management’s sustainability values are embodied through the use of ethically-sourced natural stone finishes, creating a light, airy, feel for employees, complemented by sustainably-crafted bamboo-fronted cabinetry. Acoustic panelling that has been made from recycled single-use plastic also provides an acoustic barrier with a low environmental impact. Original features such as the terrazzo floor in the main reception area have been maintained and restored, complimenting the original architecture of the space,” says Peldon Rose.

Financial institution Glenhawk recently hired workplace design firm Peldon Rose to design their new office in London, England.

“When it came to creating an office for leading financial lender, Glenhawk, workplace design and build experts Peldon Rose were faced with the task of adapting an initial concept design to deliver a flexible workplace which brings the company’s values of honesty, passion and quality service to life – all in just four weeks.

Glenhawk wanted an office environment that reflects its modern approach to financial lending, and one which will allow its team to grow comfortably. The disjointed nature of the company’s previous office highlighted the need for a diverse, yet connected, space. Aiming to move away from a corporate feel and towards a people-focused environment, Glenhawk needed a complete change in approach.

The Peldon Rose team worked closely with Glenhawk to breathe life into the initial concept design and fostered a strong working relationship with the client from the outset. This allowed the team to easily utilise the existing design to create an open plan layout that promotes interaction and collaboration across teams.

It was important that employee wellbeing was considered first and foremost. The Covid-19 pandemic has amplified the importance of keeping teams well, both physically and mentally, and the office space has a key part to play. The new location overlooks a courtyard, which means it is rich in natural light. Such an abundance of light can be a rarity in London office spaces, so every effort was made to maximise its impact.

Peldon Rose adopted the principles of biophilic design across the workplace and introduced a range of plants that will thrive in the beautifully lit space. These are complemented by the use of natural textures and the introduction of a wellbeing room with soft furnishings to create a calm space for employees to concentrate or recuperate.

The future use of space was also a really important factor in the design. As a growing company, Glenhawk needed an office that could flex and adapt. The main area allows for this growth thanks to the incorporation of break-out facilities and social spaces, while additional meeting rooms have been designed to have a multifunctional purpose. Acoustic treatments provide privacy for client meetings, but also create an area for social functions or large team meetings,” says Peldon Rose.

Insurance company Interproteccion hired architecture and interior design firm SPACE to design their new office in Mexico City, Mexico.

“Offices are no longer just places to work, they are spaces to interact, collaborate, connect, strengthen resilience, and even play. This is achieved through high-spirited and playful spaces that allow collaborators to disconnect, but also to experience, hence the concept coined by spAce: The Resilient WorkPLAYce.

The virus has confirmed the fact that we are fragile and vulnerable beings, both physically and emotionally, and for that reason the importance of protecting health and strengthening the immune and mental system has been heightened. Therefore, a different, more empathetic, more flexible and much more fun working model emerges with a comfortable and welcoming physical adaptation that offers strategic lighting and acoustics to enhance pleasant moments. The global trend of improving health and seeking well-being is certainly reflected in the space.

In a constant evolution of motivation and productivity, the design was based on the interconnection of workspaces with the right balance for individual and group work, with high efficiency in the sanitization processes, that also allows you to choose the amount of sensory stimulation and physical support for every work moment.

The finishes make up an integral part of the project, by combining them in a complementary way, we discovered colored carpets, glass, wood, vinyl and furniture that emphasizes the connection between collaborators and leaders. In general, neutral colors predominate throughout the project, but in some key points (walls, columns and carpets) bright tones were used according to a color palette that uniforms the image and helps reinforce the identity of the corporation.

The atmosphere and sensations emanating from this space were strategically generated with architectural elements that refer to a place very different from that of a traditional corporate. With the aim of encouraging socialization in a relaxed, fresh, natural and totally welcoming atmosphere, a large cafeteria is designed as the heart of the company—the nodal point that connects the three levels of the company in different atmospheres to achieve different levels of privacy and collaboration. On a cafeteria wall, shaped with black lines on a white background, different faces that the graphic artist interprets as “short stories to live today, because tomorrow who knows” have been shaped with the intention of activating creativity and inspiring.

Interprotección wanted to integrate an iconic element within its offices: a slide. Considering that it is an innovative, futuristic and avant-garde organization, the company vision is projected through this different and fun component that connects both levels. It is important to fuel the concept of the importance of play and fun in a workplace as part of the experience, just as it is advocated in The Resilient WorkPLAYce. A visit to Interprotección, both from collaborators and visitors, will be hard to forget.”

Insurance company Sanlam hired workplace design firm Oktra to design their new office in Bristol, England.

“Following the successful refurbishment of their London office, financial services group Sanlam decided to relocate their Bristol workspace and create a more cohesive space that matched the standard set by the London location. Our client was previously spread across multiple floors, and wanted to move to a single floor workspace that would open up lines of communication and break down silos in the business. Sanlam employed a workplace consultant to evaluate their spatial requirements and develop design concepts which we detailed and built at Temple Quay.

Having seen the impact of the London office design, Sanlam appointed us to fit out their Bristol office and employ the same design principles. This brief determined the aesthetics and types of working areas included in the new scheme, and drawing on our previous understanding of Sanlam’s business, our designers developed a clean, slick design that embodies our client’s brand.

The L-shaped floorplate of the space informed the location of work areas and the journey through the office. The new office layout is comprised of open plan desking with pockets of breakout space in the wings of the building, while a variety of meeting rooms are concentrated at the centre of the workplace and support both formal client meetings and informal team meetings. Flexibility is built into the architecture of the space, with folding walls in the meeting rooms which can be opened to create a large board room.

The new space considers Sanlam’s client journey; following an ascent via the glass lifts overlooking the lobby, visitors are met with a professional, on-brand reception and waiting area before being guided to the client suite. The first impression of Sanlam’s brand is consistent with that of the London office and predominantly uses their brand’s grey and blue with touches of blush and green to soften the corporate feel of the space.

Sanlam recognise the important of good office design in attracting and retaining talent, and wanted to provide their Bristol teams with a workplace that catered to their working needs as well as supporting their wellbeing. Staff now benefit from spacious desk areas with increased natural light and planting, a large breakout area with high-back sofas and soft seating for informal meetings, and a modern, bright teapoint that pulls people together at the core of the workspace.

By transitioning to a more open workplace that promotes transparency, Sanlam have encouraged cross-departmental communication and collaborative work practices. With the design and build of comfortable, welcoming workspaces for both Bristol and London teams, we have achieved Sanlam’s vision of an agile workplace that can simplify, harmonise and evolve people practices,” says Oktra.

Insurance company Skandia hired architeture and interior design firm SPACE to design their new office in Mexico City, Mexico.

“The present project succeeds in increasing creativity and productivity within a framework of comfort, and the collaborative work in the organization becomes more visible through areas that inspire effective communication between everyone to strengthen the pride of working there. Spaces that integrate and promote both working and recreational life are designed with solutions that allow people to create the environments they need and choose the workspace that improves their individual experience of habitability.

Spaces with natural lighting, fresh and air-conditioned. Application of acoustic materials in interiors and open areas. Lightweight and transparent materials. Integration of dynamic and functional furniture. Open-door privates. Different types of Boardrooms and Casual Collisions (informal meeting spaces) between work teams that facilitate interaction. Balance between workspaces and common areas, suitable for appropriate technological connection between all users.

Skandia is equipped to meet every need that may arise within the workspace, surrounded by color accents in functional spaces specially designed for efficiency and productivity. Workstation trains rotate at different orthogonal angles, following ceiling planks and apparent slab with colored accents on the carpets. The color of the space responds to the color theory, adopting the combination of neutral and warm tones to uplift concentration and productivity, with details in green, blue and yellow to energize the people who inhabit it.

Game tables, TV screens and seating spaces were installed. As well as the University space, adapted with dynamic furniture, moving walls, front-bleachers and high-tech equipment to facilitate communication and videoconferencing. The Work Café was designed with a bar on the ground floor to enjoy the terrace, accompanied by some cabins, benches, tables and chairs,” says SPACE.

A team of designers from workplace design firm Oktra recently completed a new office interior for office provider 65 Woodbridge Road in London, England.

“This project consisted of four parts: Cat A fit outs of three of the office spaces totalling 12,000 sq ft, a 5,000 sq ft Cat A+ fit out of a show suite that will allow tenants to envision what they can do with the space, and a refresh of the reception and toilets which was programmed around businesses currently occupying the offices. Our in-house graphic designers worked with the project team to rebrand the building; crafting a visual identity and developing concepts that have been used for signage in the reception, outside the building and in marketing materials that will help the landlord to promote the lettable space.

As well as floor to ceiling windows that maximise natural daylight in the office spaces, tenants will benefit from a terrace that receives sunlight during most of the day. In order to make the most of this outdoor space, we updated the furniture to make it more usable and attractive to workers.

The new, modernised reception features clean lines, a distinct brand, and comfortable, domestic-inspired furniture which has hugely improved the staff and visitor experience. The Cat A office spaces have been fitted out to a high quality with a neutral design, allowing future tenants to customise their space with graphics and signage. Through a trusting and collaborative relationship with Mayfair Capital and their real estate representatives, we have successfully added value to our client’s commercial asset and delivered a workspace that will help them to attract their target tenants in Guildford.”

Insurace firm Mafin hired architecture & interior design firm ABD Architects to design their new office in Moscow, Russia.

“Tropical plants inside the glass partitions of the open space, lianas climbing from the ceiling and stabilized moss on the walls – all these details create the atmosphere of jungle in the office. Each area of the office space has its own unique design and supports the theme of the expedition, which is embodied in the ornaments of ancient civilizations, tourist attributes and nature motifs. For example, one of the meeting rooms is created in style of the famous French cave Lascaux with a relief wall with cave paintings, and the other one – in the form of a tourist tent. The architects designed a flexible space that can be adapted to the existing “game” plan for the quickest inclusion of both a Mafin employee and a company’s guest. Open-space can be changed according to the needs of employees: it is possible to move tables and change their shape, use transformable partitions to zoning the space.

Working groups can either be separated for quiet work inside, or join together to discuss working moments, without interfering with other employees. For example, a meeting room can be used as a quiet place for one team to work, but with help of transformable partitions it is combined with a corridor for presentations and events.

The Mafin office is organized according to the “Hot Desking” principle – there are no fixed workplaces in it, and each employee has the opportunity to choose a work place depending on current tasks. This can be work in the open space cluster when it is necessary to maintain communication with colleagues, or work in an individual focus room if the task requires maximum concentration in silence. Each employee has a personal locker where you can have in keeping your things. Lockers are stylized according to the general theme of the office – they are made in forms of wooden boxes from cargo ships.
The office has many different meeting rooms, collaboration zones, which are suitable for both quick meetings and long-term work,” says ABD Architects.

Financial services company CreditSights recently hired architecture firm Kostow Greenwood Architects to design their new office in New York City.

“The overall design provides multiple break-out spaces for collaborative and individual work. An expansive, south facing café encourages casual interaction or becomes another individual workspace in natural sunlight. A glass wall with large sliding doors allows the Conference Lounge with sofas to become an extension of the Conference Wing with meeting table and chairs or create two distinctive areas for groups to meet. The 3Form LightArt Echo Fixture is a notable design element with two important functions – providing light and acoustic rating similar to a suspended acoustical ceiling without reducing the ceiling height. The open plan office, sit-to-stand desks, promote easier collaboration between teams and healthier daily physical activity.

Adjacent workrooms, with digital room schedulers, are an alternative enclosed workspace for one to four employees. Reception connects the two wings: West – open plan office and East – conference rooms. The east conference wing contains four conference rooms that can accommodate from 6 to 12 people around tables with additional side seating. A separate Flash Studio with acoustical separation, green screen backdrop, and recording equipment facilitates more varied vlogs for their clients’ needs. The conference room adjacent to the café has white board paint walls to facilitate team brainstorming”., says Kostow Greenwood Architects

Banking institution Raiffeisen recently hired architecture and interior design firm IND Architects to design their new tech center and office in Omsk, Russia.

“The meeting rooms are inspired by the works of prominent residents of Omsk — artist Damir Muratov, musician Egor Letov and poet Timofey Belozerov. Three different types of art — visual, musical and poetry are transferred on a digital basis and realized in spaces of active discussions and birth of new ideas. QR codes have been placed in the meeting rooms, which can be used to find out more about the identity of the inspirer of the design concept

In the reception area there is an installation that is a digital energy cube — it attracts individual pixels that increase the power of the cube. The installation is a metaphor for the office, which is a place of power and attracts the best IT professionals. The dynamic interior energizes for effective work, each space has unique solutions — for example, volumetric suspended texts, Cheburashka created from symbols, various patterns and light installations. A combination of loft and modern styles highlights the connection of times and sets up a productive mood — bright cubes of meeting rooms look extremely effective in the space with high industrial ceilings, restored metal columns and beams. Red brick walls are always one of the best solutions.

The office offers maximum opportunities – there are small comfortable islands for quick meetings, rooms for secluded work, niches and booths for telephone conversations, areas for collaboration and temporary work. In the best traditions of the IT sector, the office offers several options to switch and reboot — a gym with exercise machines, a game zone, a cafe, there is even a room for sleeping. The office originally had two floors, which were expanded with additional mezzanine floors, one of which houses the sleeping room. All the spaces are visually connected, and five additional staircases and an elevator were designed and built for physical connection.

The architects carefully chose the coloristic scheme — the interior is full of bright, complex colors that do not distract from work, but set up for a breakthrough and new ideas. Contributes to the birth of new ideas and handy features — panels on which you can write are presented in different areas. The office will also be able to host large-scale events in the Art Center, a conference room.”

Financial institution True Potential hired interior design studio Ward Robinson to design their new office in Newcastle, England.

“The overarching concept behind the new design was to create a place where visitors and staff can reconnect with each other and the company. Whilst still being a professional environment, the use of a more domestic approach in the variety of seating and work-stations, as well as larger kitchens on all three floors, fosters a communal feeling with added comfort.

The building has expansive windows with views to the River Tyne and countryside. Connecting with the outside has always been an important element of previous designs for staff wellbeing, but this time it is a key feature. A full remodel of the interior was required to open up the floors as much as possible for ventilation and to maximise access to the outdoors.

Two walls on the ground floor have been replaced by fully opening folding glass doors which lead from the kitchen to a large new private garden terrace with stepped seating and high-level planters. Different types of interior settings from amphitheatres to dining booths and boardrooms to café space all allow for social distancing. Settings have multiple uses – for example, an amphitheatre may be used by three people or thirty. There are no dedicated desks for the majority of staff, with the exception of the administration and contact teams, but people also have flexibility to work where they choose with a variety of pods, seating and work stations.

Sustainability has been addressed over the years by reusing and refurbishing as much as possible at each redesign. The company invested in classic modernist furniture early on which has been reused in several schemes. New spatial concepts for this design were developed around existing key features such as the ground floor rotunda, which previously housed the ground floor kitchen. This is now a meeting, working and presentation amphitheatre with stepped seating and a full height curved screen.”
